Brand new HTC U11 beats Google Pixel DxOMark rating

There’s a brand new Galaxy S8 rival in town you should be aware of, the HTC U11 that was launched only a few hours ago. The new flagship handset has top hardware and a bunch of interesting tricks that aren’t available on other devices. And it looks like the HTC U11 is able to outperform the Google Pixel in a way its biggest Android rival couldn’t.

According to DxOMark, the HTC U11 got 90 points in its thorough camera performance review, which is a score that managed to top the former leader.

Google Pixel retained that top spot for a few months now with 89 points. Not even the Galaxy S8, which launched just a few weeks ago, was able to top Google’s Pixel. Samsung’s new phone reached “just” 88 points, matching the score of the HTC 10, Galaxy S7 and Sony Xperia X. Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus has 86 points in DxOMark’s rankings.

The photography site concludes that the HTC U11 is the best smartphone camera it has ever tested. And that’s hardly a surprise considering that HTC’s former flagships topped the site’s ranking — HTC is the company that makes the Google Pixel for Google.

“Not only is the HTC U11 the highest-scoring phone we’ve ever tested, it’s the highest-scoring in both still image quality and video quality, beating out the Google Pixel by 1 point in each,” DxOMark says in its review. “Those who want to shoot and share their photos will particularly appreciate the vibrant colors and bright exposures of the HTC U11. Similarly, effective autofocus and stabilization will help both photos and videos look good right out of the phone.”

“The HTC U11’s very low noise and excellent detail preservation also allow for sharing and printing larger-sized images than with most other phones,” the review concludes. The HTC U11 DxOMark review is at this link.

Samsung announces McAfee security software to come pre-installed on Galaxy S8 smartphones

It looks like Samsung and McAfee get along together very well, as the South Korean company has just announced a massive partnership that will see the latter's security solutions get pre-installed on smartphones, smart TVs, as well as PCs.

According to Samsung, McAfee VirusScan anti-malware technology will be pre-installed on the Galaxy S8 smartphones starting April. Basically, this means that all Samsung Galaxy S8 flagships will come with McAfee's security software right out of the box.

In addition, McAfee VirusScan will be available for Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy Note 5 free of charge.

A similar anti-malware technology will be available in the United States and Korea for Samsung Smart TV customers, whereas additional countries will be added throughout the first half of 2017.

Last but not least, the McAfee LiveSafe cross-device security solution is now being shipped as pre-installed software on all Samsung PCs manufactured, starting in 2017.

However, it's worth pointing out that Samsung PC users will only be able to enjoy 60-day free trials after which they will receive a special offer.

An all-new Popcorn Time app will be coming in June

Disclaimer: Be aware Popcorn Time offers streaming/downloading services that may likely be illegal in your market. We do not condone such activity and be aware it might get you in legal trouble. We are here only to deliver the news. Shall anything happen, it will be your responsibility only.

Popcorn Time is one of the most popular downloading services around, regardless of whether it is legal or not. We know plenty of you like the service, but can also attest to the fact that the app is not the cleanest around. Don’t worry, the team is getting things up to speed and launching a new Android app.

What’s new? Pretty much everything. This new app is completely redesigned from the ground up and is being labeled as version 3.0. It integrates a new UI, Material Design standards, background workers, asynchronous requests, new features, performance improvements and more. There is even a new discovery section for finding content of your interest.

Interested? There is no set release date for the new app, but it should be sometime next month. Until then, you can continue using the current beta version of Popcorn Time, which can be downloaded straight from the official website.

Samsung Galaxy S8 - AKG Ear Buds Flash Review

These AKG ear buds come bundled with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. They have got a nice clean sound with Mid-Range Bass and clean high tones.

They retail for $100 but it's worth it having them in the S8 Box.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Mini Review. By an average Nigerian Tech Dude

Samsung Galaxy S8 (Mini Review)

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is by no means a slouch in the mobile industry. This is a major statement from uncle Sammy to Apple and other smartphone makers to sit up.

The phone sports a 5.8 Quad HD Plus, Super Amoled Display backed up with 64GB of UFS (Universal Flash Storage) 2.1 storage and a 4GB RAM to go. The phone is Fast. Sansung's Experience UI is fluid and very usable. This is probably the first Samsung UI I haven't complained about.

I've made a mini-review video on the Galaxy S8 so you can decide if this phone is good enough for you.

The Lumia I never spoke about

Dear Readers,

There are things we ought to be proud about in this life, some of them include your wife (if you're married), your God, your faith, taking a shyt.... Ok just kidding.

But! There's something i'm totally not proud of or cannot say i have an iota of pride for.

My Lumia 730

Yeah I know people, I actually bought a Lumia device in November of 2014 and man was I pumped in the expectation of wanting to use a device with a beautiful interface and well crafted chasis. SO like two weeks after buying this device, i discovered to my horror that the well crafted windows phone i used to love (I was an early Windows Phone user) was now Crap to say the least.

People Hub
The people Hub now had no Facebook integration, we now have an utterly, completely, infuriating, totally clueless Facebook app to replace the once beautiful Facebook, twitter integration in the people hub. I mean why do i need have an app to do something that the phone already had built into it's core. Well done Microsoft you guys are so smart and thanks Fartbook for twisting the big Blue's arms.

Music Hub
The music hub almost drove me mad, where was all the artist backdrop we used to have, the beautiful interface is gone, all in the name of simplicity. We used to have the best looking and sounding music player now it's all gone. Microsoft Whyyyyyyyyyyyyy??????

Settings
You know how when you're new to Lagos and find yourself in an Oshodi or an Obalende with a swarm of people all around and you not knowing where to turn to or how to get to your desired destination. That's the feeling i got from looking at the settings menu on the current windows phone 8.1.

Utter confusion.

I wouldn't say anything again about this because if i do, I'd just keep getting angry over it.

Apps
Completely Ugly looking bunch of apps... i can mention a few - BBM, Vine, FARTBOOK, Twitter, all ugly (ok skype and whatsapp try small). Guys what happened to the WP design guidelines. Apps on Windows Phone 7 were much more better looking and worked much more seamlessly. Are you guys making it more difficult for developers or what?

Conclusion
I have a lot to say, but i wouldn't want to sound like a broken record... MS Fix your OS. What i have listed is just a few of the issues with the windows phone. The windows phone was very different and that's what made me run to the platform initially. Please MS do something about the platform. From the days of Zune i loved the interface now it's all gone.

I'm almost at that point where I would put the phone where it's name says it should be. On my window.

Sorry ladies and gentlemen i just had to vent.

Have a lovely day.

My Stupendous Galaxy Note 4

Ok. So i got meself a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and now i live in a different Galaxy. I need to express how i feel about this device and i'm gonna have to do it in three versions:

Igbo - Nna men ife'a bu okoro... Whatever that means.
Yoruba - Kini yi oti ya were
Hausa - something something something... :)

This phone is absolutely Incredible and it's all I ever wanted in a phone. So i'm gonna put it in these few words. THIS IS THE BEST PHONE IN THE WORLD.

It's screen is amazing and it is a power horse of a device. Every task i throw at this big boy gets handled with inexplicable ease. Watching Youtube/Pre loaded videos is amazingly enjoyable. Multitasking using the split window is something i find myself using everyday cos really i can do almost three stuff at once. I've been able to play a video, have a floating Facebook window and also have my email client open at the same time and this dude handled it with ease.

I got the white version of this phone and I'm telling you it's something i always want to look at, the design is sleek and It's metal frame and chamfered silver edge is so pleasing to hold. The phone is sturdy and feels very premium in the hand. For a phone with a 5.7 Inch screen the Note 4 is surprisingly handy and easy to manipulate with one hand (that's to an extent though).

The one side i do have to make sure you know about is the fact that you have to pay a pretty steep price for this device. Secret: I traded in my iPhone to get this so it wasn't so bad for me.

For the Nigerian market you'd be getting this device between N120k and N130K.

If you'd like to do a trade in program you could visit obiwezyswap.com or walk into any Revive phone shop.

I'll leave you with screenshots of my Note 4 and some of the Apps i have installed. I'll also leave a link to an in-depth review on this superfluous device.
